Dr. Ernie Ward, DVM, is a veterinarian, author, entrepreneur, and longtime advocate for pets and the people who care for them. Across more than three decades he has advanced pet health, from obesity and nutrition to senior care and veterinary innovation. He founded the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention and the World Pet Obesity Association, co-hosts the award-winning Veterinary Viewfinder podcast, has authored five books, and appears regularly across national media.
Dr. Ernie Ward, DVM, is a veterinarian, author, entrepreneur, and longtime advocate for pets and the people who care for them. A 1992 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, he built and ran an award-winning veterinary hospital for more than two decades before expanding into wellness-based pet care. In 2005 he founded the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, and he later founded its clinical counterpart, the World Pet Obesity Association. His work has helped shape clinical standards for obesity, senior care, patient safety, and the responsible use of technology in veterinary medicine, including service as inaugural chair of the WSAVA Strategic Advisory Committee. Dr. Ward has authored five books, co-hosts the award-winning Veterinary Viewfinder podcast, writes the Opening Shots column for Today’s Veterinary Business, and has represented veterinary medicine across national media for two decades. An Ironman finisher and USA Triathlon coach, he brings a lifestyle-medicine lens to both ends of the leash.
