Dr. Ernie Ward, DVM, is a veterinarian, author, entrepreneur, and longtime advocate for pets and the people who care for them. Co-founder and Chief Veterinary Officer of VetFamily US, he has spent more than three decades advancing pet health, from obesity and nutrition to senior care and innovation. He founded the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention and the World Pet Obesity Association, co-hosts the award-winning Veterinary Viewfinder podcast, has written several books and textbook chapters, and appears regularly across national media.
Dr. Ernie Ward, DVM, CVFT, is an award-winning veterinarian, internationally recognized speaker, entrepreneur, author, and longtime advocate for pets and the people who care for them. A 1992 graduate of the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, he is co-founder and Chief Veterinary Officer of VetFamily US, overseeing VerticalVet and dvmGRO, group purchasing organizations serving more than 4,000 members and 10,000 clinics worldwide. In 2005 he founded the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, and he later founded its clinical counterpart, the World Pet Obesity Association. He serves on several influential boards, including as inaugural chair of the WSAVA Strategic Advisory Committee. He has written several books and textbook chapters and is editor of the forthcoming Wiley textbook Veterinary Clinical Obesity: A Multidisciplinary Approach. Dr. Ward co-hosts the award-winning Veterinary Viewfinder podcast, writes the Opening Shots column for Today’s Veterinary Business, and brings a lifestyle-medicine lens to both ends of the leash as a lifelong endurance athlete and surfer.
